2017 Writing Reflections #IWSG

IWSG Day Question: As you look back on 2017, with all its successes and failures, if you could backtrack, what would you do differently?

Oh gosh, 2017 has been a strange year as it is. Right now I’m cursing not mentally preparing more for NaNoWriMo. I may have hit my 50K, but I haven’t reached the end of the story and all I seem to do now is pick away at it.

Of course that sets off the worry that I won’t be able to maintain my schedule.

Other than that, I’m not sure what I would have done differently. I might wish I had known some things before stumbling around in the dark for a while, but that time was spent learning things to take forward with me.

  1. My husband loves to repeat the quote, “experience is what you have right after you needed it.”

If we could just have the necessary experience BEFORE we needed it. We’d save so much dark stumbling time.

I hope you have a happy and productive 2018!

  2. Hitting 50K words is a huge accomplishment. Remember that. You’ll finish your story when it’s time. Just pretend it’s still NaNo and you need to write more, 60 or 70K. 😉

  3. 50,000 words is a bit short for a novel. But that fact you have that many means you’re way ahead of where you were 30 days ago. And sure, you probably won’t be able to maintain that kind of schedule all the time, but surely you’ve learned a trick or two that will help you out! Great job!

  4. Woot woot for finishing NaNo! I totally tanked that last bit of November. I’m glad somebody made it. 🙂

Thanks for the exercise suggestions! I start looking at video routines and pretty much everything includes burpees or going from elbow planks to push-up planks, and I’m all–hey! I’ve got a bunk wrist here. I’m guessing I’ll have to make my own routine, time everything out, and then have to remember it without a guide. I’ve been looking for a conversion tool to turn my bicycle into a stationary one, but got distracted with everything else in life. I would like to get one, though.
